Nancy J. Mertzel is the Managing Partner of Mertzel Law PLLC, a boutique intellectual property firm with offices in New York and New Jersey.

Mertzel Law helps clients solve copyright, trademark, entertainment and technology issues. The firm handles disputes in federal courts throughout the US and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. On the transactional side, the firm handles trademark clearance, prosecution and portfolio management, drafts and negotiates IP agreements and advises clients on copyright issues including fair use and artificial intelligence.

Nancy is an active member of the bar and frequent speaker. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), chaired its Copyright Law Committee and was appointed to its amicus and legislation committees. Highlights of Nancy’s work on behalf of AIPLA include testifying before the House Judiciary Committee and authoring four US Supreme Court amicus briefs. Nancy previously served as an officer and trustee of the Copyright Society of the USA.

Nancy is a graduate of American University’s Washington College of Law (J.D.) and the University of Rochester (B.A.)
