bp People & Culture, Diversity Equity & Inclusion

Head of Supplier Diversity

Kim Thornton is the Head of Supplier Diversity for bp. She leads a small but mighty all-star team of women of color affectionately called the AvengHers! She is passionate about delivering greater diversity, equity and inclusion into bp’s supply chain.

Prior to her current position, Kim was the Senior Director of D&I. She led the workforce D&I efforts for BP’s Downstream Segment, Global Business Services, and the Global Oil Americas Supply and Trading business. In her role, Kim focused on the strategic framework by which diversity and inclusion are essential elements to growing, retaining, developing, and recruiting people – inclusive of women, people of color, veterans, disabled and LGBT+. Assuring a culture of inclusion where everyone can reach their full potential is also a must.

In addition to her experiences in D&I, Kim held numerous positions over the last 20 years at BP. These include roles in Strategy and Performance, Retail Operations, Project Management and Finance. These were all instrumental in preparing her for her current role where she works across segments to move the organization along on the D&I journey.

A Chicagoland native, Kim enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, reading and serving others in the community.
