Make a commitment to take one everyday essential and consciously choose a women-owned brand instead. Through increased conscious consumerism, we can make a measurable impact on women-owned businesses.

October each year is National Women’s Small Business Month. This fall 2021, WBENC, through our Women Owned initiative, is again launching a large-scale public awareness campaign to boost support for women-owned businesses and encourage all consumers to #BuyWomenOwned. The campaign kicks off October 1 to begin National Women’s Small Business Month throughout October, and builds momentum into November for Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 27, National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day on Friday, Nov. 19, and Women Owned Wednesday on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The 2021 Women Owned call to action this fall is “Make One Switch to #BuyWomenOwned.” We encourage everyone to take one everyday essential they use and consciously choose to instead source it from a women-owned business. It’s simple and easy, but potentially incredibly powerful.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further widened the disparity between women-owned businesses, particularly those owned by women of color, and other businesses. In many ways, women have borne the brunt of this health crisis for their families and loved ones, reducing the time, energy and resources available to grow their own businesses.

Women-owned businesses need our support now more than ever. Closing the revenue and employment gap by supporting and revitalizing women-owned businesses will not only help to fuel economic growth and recovery, but also will empower women as leaders and bring about a more diverse, balanced and sustainable economy.

We also know that families and communities continue to suffer from the economic and societal effects of the pandemic and may not have extra consumer dollars to spend. By asking people and families to replace, not add, at least one (and more if they can) of an everyday item that they use, through increased conscious consumerism this fall and holiday season, we can make a measurable impact on women-owned businesses.

The sky is the limit of what can be replaced to Make One Switch, and we’ll be sharing more about this initiative during the coming months and weeks. Together, we will:

  • Raise awareness of why, where and how to #BuyWomenOwned.
  • Encourage our friends and families to join us as grassroots advocates for women entrepreneurs.
  • Generate buzz about amazing women entrepreneurs, small business owners, and their products.
  • Provide an economic boost to Women Owned businesses without asking consumers to spend more.

We can’t wait to see how our network mobilizes to Make One Switch to #BuyWomenOwned!
