Barbara Bosha is President of Bosha Design+Communications and a 2019 Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Star
Each year, WBENC presents 14 women business owners with the prestigious Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Star Award. The WBE Star Award is the nation’s premier recognition for excellence among certified women-owned businesses, honoring female owners for their leadership skills, business success, and ability to serve as an inspiration to others.
Today, meet WBE Star Barbara Bosha. Barbara founded Bosha Design+Communications in 1986, and has spent the past three decades growing her business from a small design company in her home with one freelance designer to a full-service branding and communications agency with a wide variety of B2B and B2C clients.
Barbara is “The Creator” because of her natural creative spark, which she wields to develop inspired and strategic communications plans for her clients. Today, Barbara shares the values that have shaped her career, some of her challenges as a business owner, and her advice for new entrepreneurs.
Q&A with WBE Star, Barbara Bosha
What values have led to and continue to support your business acumen?
I value professional development. And I also value enduring relationships. Both have been the keys to my success. I never stopped learning, and as long I am working, I will keep learning. And I learned very early how important it is to partner with the right people and to keep those relationships alive. I was a graphic designer. Now I specialize in strategic communications. How did that happen? It happened because I was willing to learn and because I found great people to teach me and work with me.
What are the bigger challenges and barriers you’ve faced as a business owner? How have you overcome them?
My biggest challenge has always been finding people with both the right skill set and the right mindset. I’m not satisfied with people who have only the skills I need to help my business grow. I want people who are also willing to do whatever it takes to meet our customers’ needs and have a passion for their profession. It’s worth the time and effort it takes to and these special people because when you employ or partner with someone who complements your skills and also thinks like you, you can take your customer service to the next level and love what you do at the same time.
What advice do you have for a new entrepreneur?
The best advice I can offer a new entrepreneur is to never pass up the opportunity to learn something about business. When I look back on the growth and success of my company, it’s clear that it was driven in large part by my willingness to accept that I did not know everything (far from it!) and that I was always on the lookout for learning opportunities.
