Welcome to Houston! We’ve had an energizing start to the 2019 WBENC Summit & Salute, with a pre-Summit day packed with networking, learning, and exploring business opportunities. As we look forward to our official kick-off on Tuesday, here are a few things to keep on your radar and a recap of today’s highlights.
3 Things to Know
Remember to wear your badge. Just a reminder that you’ll need to wear your badge to enter all functions, including the Welcome to Houston! Reception on Tuesday evening.
Stay hydrated, the sustainable way. In the event bag, all attendees received a reusable water bottle, generously provided by our sustainability sponsors, Honda of America, Mfg and Limb Design. Grab this bottle from your bag and look for hydration stations throughout the Marriott Marquis to reduce your waste and stay hydrated throughout the event.
Check-in on the mobile app. You can see who else is here and even connect directly with other attendees right in our mobile app. Remember to download the app and check in!

Women of Color Outreach & Development Program
This morning, we kicked off our Pre-Summit day with the Women of Color Development & Outreach Program, which featured insights from Dee Marshall, CEO of Diverse & Engaged, LLC, Candace Waterman, President & CEO of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), and more.
Women’s Enterprise Forum Lunch & Keynote
Attendees left inspired after a keynote from strategist Erica Dhawan about the power of “connectional intelligence.”
From the ever-popular WBE2WBE Connections to our first Summit & Salute Orientation session, the Pre-Summit Day was filled with opportunities to make connections, explore business opportunities, and prepare for a productive two days ahead. In the afternoon, we headed to co-working space Station Houston for a dynamic NextGen Meeting & Happy Hour, featuring a panel discussion, quick one-minute pitch opportunities, table discussions, and plenty of networking.
Attendees also got their first look at our first WBENC Opportunities Almanac, an exclusive resource featuring procurement and supply chain opportunities with WBENC Corporate Members and WBEs.
We loved seeing posts from some of our first-time attendees today on social media and the WBENC Mobile App. We hope you had a great start to your first Summit & Salute! For those who have attended in the past, make sure to introduce yourself to these first-timers and welcome them to the WBENC network!
@BroadBased has been a certified as a WBE by @WBENCLive for several years, but I've never attended a conference. Color me blown away by the dynamic women business owners AND corporate partners who make inclusive procurement practices a priority. #SummitSalute pic.twitter.com/TFVOOTRIQB— Jan Hirabayashi (@JanHirabayashi) March 12, 2019
