Anjali (Ann) Ramakumaran

CEO of Ampcus Inc.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs?

For women who are starting a new business, it is important to stay focused, remain patient and be persistent. You need to remain confident about your vision, even in the face of adversity, as your passion will lead to success. Also, be prepared to work hard and surround yourself with like-minded people who support your vision. Finally, always believe in yourself, your people and your business. By investing back into your people, processes and infrastructure, you will continue to lay the groundwork for success.

What three traits define you?

First, without Honestly and Integrity nothing else will matter. I believe that I am a Visionary which has allowed me to launch and grow Ampcus as a successful business. Last, my Passion and Enthusiasm have been a tremendous trait contributing greatly to our success.

How has being a WBENC-Certified WBE helped your business?

Ampcus has been a proud WBENC-Certified WBE since 2009. Our Certifications and the support of organizations like WBENC and others have contributed greatly to our success. Ampcus’ certifications have fueled our economic growth and facilitated meaningful dialog with major corporations, public sector entities and non-profits, many of which we now call our clients.

Our revenue has grown on average forty percent year over year and we are grateful for the role WBENC, our partners, clients and other organizations have played in our accomplishments. By utilizing all the programs WBENC, their RPOs and our other partners have to offer and working to build a world class high performance team, Ampcus has realized great success in its business.

What do you see as the coolest or most important trend in your industry?

Technology changes very rapidly and these changes impact all of our customers’ business. As the cost pressures are very high and competitors are constantly innovating by taking and doing business digitally, we have seen a trend that the businesses are taking a startup approach.

Every day we see new solutions being developed on the Artificial Intelligence frameworks. Ampcus has invested in two state of the art innovation labs where we conduct hackathons, thus helping solve the challenges that our customers face. Through such investments we have built wrappers around Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics Process Automation and Intelligent Character Recognition.

We have also built frameworks to accelerate development, governance, risks and compliance across industries. As a technology company, these changes are very exciting for our company. We’ve invested heavily in our people, processes, infrastructure and other tools.

Ampcus’ Innovation Lab is utilized to test potential next generation concepts that may be the key to maintaining that competitive edge and helping to fuel our future. We believe in investing for our future and rely on our brain trust to pave a path that will continue to be relevant for years to come. Education is of course key, we must always be willing to listen and learn.

As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?

The biggest thing that keeps me up at night is how we double our growth and how we continue to identify like-minded people that have the technical skills and business knowledge to help facilitate this growth. In addition, I also think about how we can continue to be that supplier of choice for our clients while we continue to improve and better ourselves. The future is exciting and we have great plans for Ampcus; but at the end of the day I think about a quote in one of our client’s Credo which basically says we know our best was good enough for today and tomorrow we’ll do better.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

As my career and business have grown, it was my mom who gave me the best advice to keep everything in perspective; remember there will be good times and more challenging times you should always be yourself, don’t change, treat others with respect and always be a giver.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I would travel the world and explore all that each country offers. There is something magical about exploring new places, meeting new people and learning about the different cultures in the world.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child I wanted to be a pilot.

Fill in the Blank

When I face a challenge, I… take some time to myself to concentrate on the problem and get mentally prepared. Then I discuss with my team the best way to approach and navigate through the challenge. I’ve always been a firm believer that there is always a solution to every single problem.

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself… don’t wait to start my business. We started in 2004 and looking back if I had started earlier there would have been so much more we could have accomplished. I encourage all who are contemplating starting their own business to march forward and don’t forget it’s never too late.

The one thing I couldn’t live without is… my family, this includes my personal family and my Ampcus family.

The best thing that happened to me recently was… being inducted to serve on several boards for various non-profit organizations.

To get my creative juices flowing, I… close my door and put my thoughts together. Anytime I can get outside and look at the water it gets my creative juices flowing.
