About the Women’s Business Development Council of Florida
Host Council for the 2012 WBENC National Conference and Business Fair
Nancy Allen
President and CEO
The Women’s Business Development Council of Florida (WBDC Florida) is proud to host the 2012 WBENC National Conference and Business Fair. The event, which also marks WBENC’s 15th Anniversary, will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
President and CEO Nancy Allen heads the council, which was created in 1993 and represents members in Florida, minus the panhandle, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. WBDC’s mission is to assist in the establishment and growth of women in business. WBDC Florida offers business development programs and training designed to develop skills and knowledge for women in business. The organization strives to foster and cultivate relationships between its members, corporations and government.
The council began offering WBENC certification in 2000. Today, WBDC Florida helps women business enterprises thrive by providing networking and business opportunities via expos and trade fairs; leadership forums; one-on-one, corporate and business-to-business mentoring; matchmaker events; and a corporate close-up series, designed to introduce corporate representatives to women business enterprises (WBEs). Like its tagline says, the council is determined to “change the face of business one woman at a time.”
WBDC Florida includes approximately 450 certified WBEs. Forty-six percent have revenues between $1 million and $10 million, while 4 percent have revenues above $10 million. Collectively, WBDC Florida’s WBEs provide jobs to nearly 13,000!
With WBDC Florida helping to lead the way, the 2012 National Conference is sure to build on the great success that was created in Las Vegas in 2011 and continue WBENC's vital work of “creating opportunities and recognizing excellence” among WBEs.
