According to SmallBusiness and the MSNBC television show, Your Business, here are some of the Top Facebook Apps for marketing Small Business:

Poll – Creates questions and posts them on your Facebook Wall. The Poll app will track results for you including the respondent's User ID, name and gender. Use this app to ask for feedback, conduct marketing research, or just to have fun.

IFrame Apps – Lets you add custom tabs to your Facebook page. Specify the URL of your current website so that your home page will be displayed when visitors click on this new tab on your Facebook page.

Extended Info – Creates additional information tabs allowing you to make custom fields and display custom content. You can add video, images, and music to the pages.

Work For Us – Lets you post job openings and receive applications through your Facebook page. Take advantage of the reach of the social network to create awareness about the job opening.

Social eCart – Sell products directly on your Facebook page using Social eCart. Create a new online store or link directly to your existing online shop. Visitors can "Like" your products, recommend them to friends, and make comments.

Call to Action:  Support Small Business Saturday!

This November is a month for giving thanks – first to the women and men in the military especially in recognition of Veterans Day and beyond. Next, to our family, friends and supporters, many blessings as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

We also salute our troops. Among our own WBENC-Certified Women Business Enterprises (WBEs), we have many award-winning veterans in our midst. Leaders such as Julia Hubbel, who served in the U.S. Army including as Chief of Military Protocol for the Jimmy Carter Inaugural before becoming a Supplier Diversity Professional with The Hubbel Group Inc.; Donna Caldwell, an Air Force veteran who now leads DKC Enterprises LLC, a global building and facilities management company; or Navy veteran Stacey Fisher who became a cum laude college graduate on the G.I. Bill and now is heading up a home inspection company.

Each credits her military training with the focus, determination and confidence that have contributed to her success as a business owner.

Enabling female veterans' success is also part of our work at WBENC. We have collaborated with outstanding organizations for veteran business owners that, like us, provide crucial access to corporate and government contacts, business skills and networking.

Particularly now with our ability to certify women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) for Federal contracting, we have synergies with veterans business organizations such as the Veterans and Military Business Owners Association (VAMBOA) and the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) which also publishes WBENC media partner Vetrepreneur.

VAMBOA provides networking, mentoring, education, certification and advocacy of Veteran Business Owners, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (SDVOB) and Military Business Owners of all sizes worldwide. Founded by Debbie Gregory, daughter of a World War II disabled veteran who started volunteering early in the Veterans Administration hospital where her father healed, VAMBOA has in a short period of time grown to 4,000 members and 42,000 followers on Twitter.

VAMBOA and WBENC co-hosted a conference in April 2011 at Amgen, which gave me the opportunity to personally work with members of their staff. This successful conference featured Money magazine's Jordan Goodman and corporate participants such as Amgen, Johnson Controls, Toyota, and AT&T.

NaVOBA's mission is to create opportunities for all of America's veteran-owned businesses. More than three million men and women who have defended our nation's freedoms by serving in America's armed forces have made the choice to start their own small businesses after completing military service. NaVOBA calls them "vetrepreneurs" and its Vetrepreneur magazine is dedicated exclusively to covering the veteran-owned business movement. NaVOBA joined WBENC as a media partner at WBENC's 2011 National Conference & Business Fair in Las Vegas.

So many of our Corporate Members conduct community outreach benefiting veterans, give their resources to veterans service organizations and support their own veteran employees through networks. We are proud to be associated with this fine caliber of corporation.

Later this month, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, WBENC and many of our Corporate Members, Regional Partner Organizations, partners and friends are supporting the second annual Small Business Saturday – a national program created by American Express and supported by our partner Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) to drive business to local, independently owned small businesses on Saturday, November 26 – a day we hope will gain the national visibility on the level of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On a strategic level, WBENC's Roadmap to 2020 calls for support of our WBENC-Certified WBEs by enhancing their sophistication, capabilities and revenues so that they too can fuel economic growth and contribute to the addition of six million new jobs by 2020.

Aside from being the right thing to do to support our WBEs, there's also a business case for making an immediate and positive impact on the small business sector of our economy. Over the past 15 years, small businesses have generated 64 percent of net new jobs and employ just over half of all private sector employees. Additionally, the impact of "shopping small" can profoundly benefit local communities: for every $100 spent at a locally owned small business, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.

Finally, I would like to give my own personal thanks to the WBENC family – our Corporate Members, Government agencies, Regional Partner Organizations, over 11,000 WBEs and our fabulous WBENC staff. Your friendship and commitment make my job rewarding.

Small Business Saturday Call to Action:  Buy Small!

First, there was Black Friday – then there was Cyber Monday. Now we have Small Business Saturday® designed to drive millions of dollars to small business merchants on Saturday, November 26, of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Small Business Saturday can give a big boost to small businesses and our economy. Best Practices in Supplier Diversity: A Look to the Leaders

Now that applications have been filed for WBENC's 2011 America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprises, it's a good time to recognize the daily work and leadership shown by our Corporate Members in advancing excellence in supplier diversity over the 12 years of this award's history.

To date, three extraordinary companies – AT&T, Energy Future Holdings, and UPS – or their predecessor companies, have been named to this list every year since its inception.

"From the beginning, these leaders have had the vision and the discipline to make supplier diversity a priority in their companies," said WBENC President and CEO Pamela Prince-Eason. "It is this type of commitment, along with the excellent implementation of their best practices that have made them world-class."

America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprises is WBENC's national award honoring corporations for world-class programs that create level playing fields for Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs) to compete for corporate contracts. The Selection Committee – whose members are anonymous – now begins its rigorous work of reviewing applications for the list that will be announced next year. Only those companies that meet the high standards WBENC has developed over the years make the list, and the number varies from year-to-year.

What are some of the best practices that the "Top Corps Award" looks for in an application?

Commitment from the Top. A successful supplier diversity program starts from the top with active CEO involvement driving a clear policy statement supporting the principles of doing business with WBENC-Certified WBEs. Top Corporations then will drive this support throughout the organization, often with cross-functional leadership teams or advisory councils.

Accountability Across the Organization. A supplier diversity program has teeth when its goals are linked to the performance and compensation of key stakeholders – from buyers, to senior purchasing managers, to cross functional managers, and again up to the top of the house. Keeping track of WBE spend on a monthly basis – and making it available to those participants - is also key to a program's transparency and success.

Delivering Results. At the end of the day, our Top Corps winners "show us the money" by increasing their spending with WBEs from year to year. They also perpetuate the benefits of supplier diversity by requiring their prime suppliers to adhere to their own supplier diversity goals. This is good news to many WBEs that can get their foot in the door as Tier Two suppliers.

The above examples are only part of the stringent criteria that are met by America's Top Corporations for WBEs. Certification Corner

Know Your Customer and Their Point of View

Your customer has a need or a problem to solve. Your task is to assist them by providing a short list of great options that can be delivered in an adequate timeframe, at competitive pricing without sacrificing quality or safety.

Before you can achieve any of this, you must first know your customer. What business are they in? What are their corporate goals? What are they purchasing? What are the contract cycles? What is important to them - safety or service? You can obtain this information as simply as researching their website and reading their annual report.

Once you have conducted your homework and are speaking to them, use words or jargon that is specific to their corporate culture; think about how your responses truly convey the description of the solution you have to offer. See them as your partner by walking them through the delivery process of your solution, show them how nimble you can be and how you have a customized approach to actually solving their problem.

It is imperative to think outside yourself and step into your customer's shoes so you can realize their need, educate them on how you provide the best solution, demonstrate how you will partner with them long term and ensure they are not only meeting their targets but exceeding them; ultimately by helping each other get better.

Success is not only measured by meeting your goals, but it is also measured by assisting your customer in meeting their goals.

The Impact of an Executive Scholarship

Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs) are faced with a variety of challenges, and each business owner has her own special needs for how to move the company forward. Whether it is her leadership style, launching a new product/service, developing the right strategic plan or even determining an exit strategy, WBENC's Dorothy B. Brothers Executive Scholarship allows WBEs the flexibility to select the education topic that will best suit her company's current need.

Dorothy B. Brothers, a WBENC Board Member in 2002, saw the importance of WBEs having an educational opportunity that continues to grow her legacy of supporting WBEs.

US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 32nd Annual Convention

The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) held a special lunch honoring the Top 20 Latino/Latina owned companies during their 32nd Annual National Convention & Business Expo in September 2011. These businesses represent the largest Hispanic Business Enterprises (HBEs) in America, as identified by Hispanic Business Magazine's Top 500 list. The Latina honorees included the following WBENC-Certified Women's Business Enterprises:
