               We are WBENC
Contributing to the success of women-owned business through WBENC's Roadmap to 2020!

WBENC's National Conference & Business Fair is just around the corner. We have a record level of attendee registrations and cannot thank our sponsors enough for their support which has allowed us to provide some of the best programming available at an event of this nature. The program is planned, the details are being finalized and just enough entertainment has been interjected to refresh all attendees as we move through our highly productive conference. Congratulations to all who have worked to put this event together.

I am pleased to update you on completion of my first Strategic Planning deliverable. After quickly, but thoroughly, assessing the organization, I have worked with colleagues from our various constituent groups to create a strategic planning process that has been accepted by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and will become actionable upon completion of the Board of Director Strategic Planning Workshop that is occurring on June 21, 2011. Ultimately, the end result, named "WBENC's Roadmap to 2020," will be the foundation for a new era throughout the WBENC network. It will provide direction to the organization, provide a method to measure our progress and will address issues facing, and opportunities available to, women-owned businesses over the next decade.

We have created a theme to communicate how - together - we will implement "WBENC's Roadmap to 2020": We Are WBENC!

"We Are WBENC" highlights how all of WBENC's stakeholders play a key role in each other's mutual success. Whether you are a Corporate Member, WBENC-Certified WBE, Regional Partner Organization, or strategic partner, we collectively benefit when we rally around an end goal and apply the full force of our intelligence, expertise and power towards achieving it. In this case, "We Are WBENC" conveys this effort and ultimately supports a greater good:

  • Growth of the nation's economy and job creation by providing women business enterprises with access to viable business contacts and opportunities.

Earlier this year, WBENC's Social Media Task Force, led by Cristy McCullough, WBENC Assistant Vice President, Marketing, Communications, and Brand Management, presented its findings and recommendations on the path WBENC should take in utilizing social media as a new communications tool. "Here at WBENC, we are appreciative of the leadership the Social Media Task Force provided in establishing WBENC's presence in the world of social media," said Pamela Prince-Eason, WBENC President and CEO. "Their time and input has been invaluable as we look at new ways in engaging constituents." The members of the Social Media Task Force include:
In addition to the work done by its Social Media Task Force, WBENC's initial venture into social media has been made possible by AT&T, BP America, and The ROBART Companies, which provided funding to ensure WBENC is able to use social networks as a strategic way to:
  • Engage and communicate with its constituents
  • Convey important messaging in a real-time environment
  • Build community through two-way dialogue
  • Stay on top of important issues
In order to maximize its social media efforts in promoting the Conference, WBENC partnered with the Women's Business Enterprise Council-West (WBEC-West), one of WBENC's 14 Regional Partner Organizations (RPOs) and the 2011 Host Council of WBENC's National Conference & Business Fair. WBEC-West worked with WBENC to promote its 2011 Conference in Las Vegas via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and the WBEC-West Blog. In addition, WBEC-West conducted Social Media promotions, webinars, and podcasts. Onsite at WBENC's Conference, WBEC-West will also transmit real-time messages via Twitter using #2011WBENC, conduct Twitterviews, and staff a Social Media Center in the Conference Registration area to get attendees engaged.

You can count on WBENC to provide the latest messaging before and during WBENC's Conference, as well as post-conference highlights, photos, and video as they become available. In the future, you will be able to interact with us on LinkedIn and Twitter. Stay tuned for updates on Facebook.

Corporate Members Can Still Register for ISM CPSDTM Exam.

Stand out from your peers by completing the CPSD™ Exam offered onsite at WBENC's 2011 Conference. Register now to test on June 24, 2011, in Las Vegas, for the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) new supplier diversity designation.

Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), along with Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) have arranged a unique opportunity for members of either organization to take the new Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity™ (CPSD™) Exam following the WBENC 2011 National Conference & Business Fair, to be held June 21-23, 2011 in Las Vegas.

The new CPSD™ designation launched by ISM is developed for supply management and supplier diversity professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge and enhance their credentials in the field of supplier diversity. The CPSD™ Exam covers the major areas of supplier diversity and supply management. WBENC has been instrumental in working with ISM to include diversity subject matter experts in the development of the new designation.

As a supporter of the new CPSD™ program, WBENC has arranged for the CPSD™ Exam (one of two exams required for applying for the CPSD™) to be available for members on Friday morning, June 24, 2011 in Las Vegas.

Map Your Show: Find Exhibitors and Make Connections at WBENC's National Conference & Business Fair
Are you building your marketing strategy to prepare for
WBENC's National Conference & Business Fair?

As an attendee or exhibitor, use the WBENC Conference Map Your Show online tool to promote your company before, during and after the Conference. The Map Your Show tool also makes it easier for attendees to find exhibitors on the Business Fair floor. (Exhibitors must sign in, create a password, and provide permission for their contact information to be promoted using this tool.)


Whether you are a WBE proactively seeking business or a Corporate Member looking for suppliers to fill a specific requirement, start by clicking here to build your customized planner. Go to the Search the Show tab to select the exhibitors with whom you want to meet. Select them individually by name or as an industry group. The list of your targets will be listed along with their booth numbers and contact name to make your targets easier to find and to customize your contact strategy in advance. On the same page, you are provided the ability to e-mail the company contact to set up an appointment to meet during the Conference.

Under the My Show Planner tab, there are several options including the Profile Wizard, which will step you through the use of the different Map Your Show features. Select My Events to schedule meetings with the pre-selected contacts, make contact notes, and more. Those using Microsoft Outlook can easily transfer the scheduled appointments from Map Your Show to their personal calendar.

Finally, use Map Your Show to schedule your entire itinerary by simply adding the workshops and networking sessions you plan to attend and any advance or on-site meetings that are scheduled.

The next WBENCLink Database Training for Certified WBEs will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.  WBE training sessions are held on the second and last Wednesday of each month, except for December, which has just one training date - on the 14th.

Each class is limited to the first 50 people who log in to the Internet meeting site. Therefore, it is not necessary to register for this training. Note: if you choose to log in early to reserve your spot, you may do so. However, please do not phone in to the session until the class is due to begin as WBENC will be charged for this time. Misuse of WBENCLink Database!
While the WBENCLink database is an excellent strategic marketing tool to identify the supplier diversity contact of a Corporate Member, to find WBEs for partnerships, to purchase products and services; unfortunately, many WBEs are using it for the purpose of email blasts. Please note contact information obtained from WBENCLink is not permitted for use in any e-mail blasts. Examples of misuse include sending an email blast for the purpose of advertising or promoting:
  • A company, executive/employee from your company, or an event.
  • A product or service that is on sale or offered at a discount to WBENC Certified WBEs or Corporate Members.
  • A product or service offered by your company that would make a great gift for a boss or administrative assistant.
As of June 1, 2010, any WBE who continues to send out this type of email will receive a "cease and desist" letter from WBENC. If the WBE continues to contact WBEs for this purpose, their level of access to WBENCLink will be restricted to their profile only.
