JOHN HOFMEISTER
John Hofmeister was named President of Shell Oil Company, based in Houston, on March 1, 2005.

Mr. Hofmeister joined Shell as Director of Human Resources, based in
The Hague, The Netherlands, and London, UK, in 1997.

Prior to joining Shell he served as Vice President, International Human Resources, for AlliedSignal Inc, based in Hong Kong. He joined AlliedSignal in 1992 as Vice President of Human Resources for its Aerospace business.

From 1988 to 1992, Mr. Hofmeister was employed with Northern Telecom Inc., where he became Vice President of Human Resources in 1990.

He began his career in 1973 in the General Electric Lighting Business' international marketing and sales department. During his fifteen years at GE, Mr. Hofmeister held a variety of marketing, manufacturing and human resource positions in five of GE's major businesses, including locomotives, telecommunications, factory automation and electric motors.

Mr. Hofmeister holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political Science from Kansas State University. He serves as the Vice Chairman with the Greater Houston Partnership and is on the Boards of the American Petroleum Institute, the National Petroleum Council, Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee, the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Urban League. He is a Director of the Foreign Policy Association and a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources.

He is married and has two adult daughters. His wife, Karen, is an author and has a worldwide consulting practice in Executive Development. His interests include the preservation of an 18th century rolling mill and adjacent farm in the heart of Pennsylvania's Amish country.
