Louisville MSD’s planned 2.5-mile Ohio River Tunnel will be 20-24-feet in diameter and located approximately 200-feet below the surface. About the Project:
Underground storage is part of MSD’s larger endeavor to prevent sewage overflows in our waterways. Construction of the tunnel is expected to begin in summer 2017, and will be operational by the end of 2020, with total project completion by the end of 2021.
The Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) intends to issue Invitation to Bid (ITB) from qualified Contractors to serve as general contractors for MSD’s Ohio River Tunnel project. The ORT project will be bid as four (4) separate packages:
- The Tunnel and Shafts Package
- Rowan Pump Station
- Lexington & Payne CSO Interceptor
- Downtown CSO Interceptor projects.
MSD expects the construction of these improvements to be approximately $150 to $200 Million.
