Get to know Jill Sasso

 

What did you do before you started at WBENC?

I spent 13 years on the leadership team of a service business based in Texas, where I had a hand in almost every business function from accounting to operations to human resources.  I discovered my talents were people and strategic planning, and decided to make a change to focus strictly on HR.  I joined a WBE in Addison, TX as the Vice President of Human Resources and worked on the senior leadership team, growing the employee base by over 80% in under 2 years.  During my time there, I attended a few WBENC events and found the energy of everyone involved contagious!  I knew this was where I was supposed to be. 

What keeps you busy at WBENC?

As the Senior Director of HR, my main focus is overall strategic HR direction.  Currently, I am leading our team in the implementation of a new operating system.  I also serve as the Governance and Compliance officer for our Board of Directors and lead the Ambassador group.   My newest project is our Legacy of Leaders group, and I am honored to be involved with this amazing group of people who were the founders and architects of WBENC over the last 20 years!

What is your favorite part of working at WBENC?

My favorite part of working at WBENC is the incredible group of people we have on staff.  Our team works seamlessly together and there is a mutual respect and spirit of teamwork that is rare in the business world today.  Supporting the growth and development of Woman Owned Businesses is a passion we all share and that mission creates a powerful bond and synergy.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

My husband Kevin and I live in McKinney, TX with our daughter Kendall and our 4 dogs.  We love to be outside whenever possible and really enjoy the McKinney Farmers Market and historic downtown area.  I love to cook and we are HUGE Dallas Cowboys fans.  We spend quite a bit of time with family, who all live locally.  We are currently beginning a remodel on our house and are very excited to update our space!

What do you do really well?

I’m a people person!  I love bringing people together and helping them realize their full potential.  I’m a good listener, problem-solver and I genuinely care about others, which is why HR is such a natural fit for me.  Having great people on your team is the most essential quality of a successful organization and I get really passionate about making that happen!

Why do you get up in the morning?

I have a strong need to make the world a better place, and I want to use my time and talents doing exactly that.  Nothing gets me more excited than working hard to see results and success, and then regrouping again to say, “Now how do we make it even greater?”  I believe we all have a purpose and that’s mine.  Putting that energy behind support and growth of women-owned businesses makes me so excited to get up every morning!
