This month the Women Presidents’ Organization, an international peer advisory group for million dollar plus women-led companies, expanded its presence in Portugal and Mexico, continuing to develop their international community.
In Portugal, the WPO responded to the growth of women-led businesses throughout the European Union. “Lisbon represents an important economic partner for businesses in Europe and throughout the world. Women-led companies make up an increasing share of significant economic growth,” said Dr. Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., Founder and President of the WPO. “We are confident that the Women Presidents’ Organization’s expansion into Lisbon will help provide key resources to a dynamic group of women business leaders.” Dr. Marsha Firestone will be the keynote speaker of the meeting, where she will share WPO values and her latest experience as guest speaker of the British Parliament addressing the sustained growth of owned and run by women enterprises.
“Women-owned and women-led businesses represent a growing sector of the Portuguese, as well as the global economy. This new chapter of the WPO will help this exclusive group of fast growing women entrepreneurs in Portugal strengthen and scale their businesses, in an ever-changing economic context,” said newly appointed WPO Portugal Chapter Chair, Helena de Abreu Rodrigues (Ally Group).
The WPO launched a new chapter in Mexico City, sponsored by American Express. Thelma De La Peña, Vice President Acquisition & Early Engagement Services for American Express, underscored the importance of supporting the growth of WPO. "Mexico is a country with great female talent, demonstrating the value diversity brings to the country and its businesses. We have spent many years working to promote the growth of this sector. In 2016 we established an important partnership with CIMAD (Research Center for Women in Senior Management) at the IPADE Business School and promoted the group of Rising Talents at the Women's International Forum. Now, we are proud to sponsor the launch of the Women Presidents' Organization in Mexico. "
Local WPO Chapters are coordinated by a professional facilitator using a proprietary roundtable format. Members in noncompetitive businesses meet monthly to share business expertise and experience in a confidential setting. They tap into the collective wisdom of their peers to advance their business success. Members credit WPO as an important resource: 82% believe that the organization has helped them manage their business concerns; 77% of them have established business opportunities with each other; and 67% have seen a growth in their business since they joined the organization.
“Mexico City is a key economic partner for businesses in the US and throughout the world. Women-led companies make up an increasing share of significant economic growth,” said Dr. Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., Founder and President of the WPO. “We are confident that the Women Presidents’ Organization’s expansion into Mexico City will help provide key resources to a dynamic group of women business leaders.”
“Companies owned and run by women constitute a growing sector in Mexico and in the international economy. This new chapter of WPO will support a fast-growing group of Mexican entrepreneurs and help them build their companies in a changing global economic context,” said Valeria Rodríguez Codina, CEO of Goinglobal and facilitator of the WPO Mexico City chapter.
