Teresa Lawrence: Become an Influential Connector

The 2016 National Conference & Business Fair Host Committee shares influential, inspirational, and insightful #WBEWisdom on how to best leverage all the opportunities in Orlando from June 21 to 23!

When you are networking, ask yourself: “Are you are always looking to extract value instead of giving value?” Perhaps you need to rethink your business’s relationship building blocks. Today it is all about being an “influential connector”! How can your connecting efforts influence others? That’s the making for a sustainable business foundation.

An influential connector knows the power of the triangle – and the power of intersection. Like the Great Pyramids of Egypt, you must see the triangle in three dimensions, with many different sides.

Yet an influential connector knows her place is in the middle – she knows it is all about connecting the right people in the room. Your opening line should always be the same: “How can I be of help?”

The influential connector makes it her business to learn as much as she can from everyone she meets. While you may not think creating these connections will further leverage and create relationships, the method of connecting the dots will certainly place you on top of everyone’s list and pretty soon people will start recognizing you as facilitator of conversation—a master of ceremony, if you will.

As the influential connector, you facilitate an intimate connection with two people that “need” to meet in order to amplify their businesses. Your influence plays a role in their connections, their businesses, and their growth.

As you prepare for this role at the upcoming National Conference & Business Fair, a great book to consider reading is Judy Robinett’s How to Be a Power Connector, where she describes how to transform networking into profits.

“Other people have the answers, deals, money, access, power, and influence you need to get what you want in this world,” writes Robinett. “To achieve any goal, you need other people to help you do it.”

Are you ready to be the influential connector at NCBF in Orlando? I’ll see you there!
