Get to Know Nettie Teter

Q: What did you do before you started at WBENC

A: I came on full time at WBENC shortly after graduating from UT Austin. During the 8 years prior to my hire, I volunteered yearly for WBENC Summit & Salute and the National Conference & Business Fair as well as for Women’s Business Council - Southwest (WBCS) events. I grew up around the WBENC network because my mom, Debbie Hurst, became the President of WBCS when I was 5 years old. Attracted to the magnetizing energy and positivity of the women and supplier diversity reps in the network, I tried to stay involved and volunteered as often as I could.

Q: What keeps you busy at WBENC/What are the main projects you work on?

A: I work in the Marketing Department for WBENC and manage our social media platforms for WBENC as well as the Women Owned initiative. Are you following us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn?

I also assist in planning our annual events, Summit & Salute and the National Conference & Business Fair, managing sponsorship fulfillment for both events to make sure you get the most out of your sponsorships!

Q: What is your favorite part of working at WBENC?

A: Interacting with such a passionate, energetic and involved network is my favorite part of working at WBENC. Meeting face to face at our annual events is inspiring and fun, but I also get to interact with our network every day via social media. I love reading your mentions, comments, and shares and seeing photos you post and like! Drop by our platforms to share your opinions, check in and make my day even more fun! J

Q: What do you do for fun outside of work?

A: I love exploring new places, whether that is traveling to a city or country I have never been or checking out a new restaurant where I live in Austin, TX. On a typical weekend, you’ll find me trying a new dish on a café patio, taking a walk through a park, or enjoying a local beer at one of Austin’s many festivals!

Q: Who inspires you?

A: WBENC icons Debbie Hurst and Cheryl Stevens inspire me most in my work and personal life. Growing up watching these passionate, giving, strong women and their friendship shaped my priorities, demeanor and goals. They have dedicated their lives to the interest of others, are respectful, smart, opinionated, and resilient.

Q: Where is your favorite place in the world?

A: Sitting on the top of a bareback horse is my favorite place in the world. The mutual trust shared and feeling the strength and loyalty of such a powerful animal is an incredible and humbling sensation.
