Supplier Diversity Professional Series – Multi-tier or Second Tier Programs

Expanding the Power of the Purse

David Gifford-Robinson, WBENC’s Director of Marketing, facilitated the third installment of WBENC’s Supplier Diversity Professional Series on September 15, 2016.  These quarterly webinars are one of the newest exclusive benefits offered to National Corporate Members of WBENC.  Each quarter, a panel of national corporate member experts take the audience through a specific topic relevant to their supplier diversity programs.

For the third quarter webinar, entitled “Multi-tier or Second Tier Programs – Expanding the Power of the Purse”, the panel discussed second tier programs.  The presenters were Leigh Ann Vernon, Director of Strategic Sourcing and Supply at BNSF Railway; Heather Herndon-Wright, Director of Supplier Diversity at Energy Future Holdings, and Darlene Fuller, Sr. Director of Supplier Diversity at Sodexo.

The panelists provided a comprehensive overview of their respective second tier programs.  They touched on topics including if, when, and why to start a second or multi-tier program; resources (time, people, and systems) necessary to execute a program; the need for on-going internal and external stakeholder education and understanding, and many more.

The full presentation as well as the tools reviewed during the presentation are available on the WBENC website under Insights Library for the exclusive use of national Corporate Members.  You’ll also find links to our other previous SDP Presentations and additional useful tools.

Our fourth and final webinar for 2016 will be presented on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM EST.   For more information contact David Gifford-Robinson at or Mia Delano at Please forward topic ideas!  If you are a WBENC National Corporate member and interested in presenting as part of a future panel discussion, please contact David.
