For over a year, WBENC has been in strategic discussions with Prowess, a British umbrella group that includes the major associations of women-owned businesses as members, as well as organizations that provide business training and support to women-owned businesses, in the UK. Prowess also conducts research; is running an initiative to identify the top women-owned businesses in science and technology, and runs a rigorous Flagship Award program, to identify the top organizations in the UK providing services to women-owned businesses. The fourth annual study tour that WBENC will organize for them will focus on growth and high-growth oriented women-owned businesses, and will take place in the San Francisco area in June 2007. Many Prowess participants in the study tour are expected to also attend the back-to-back WBENC Women in Business 2007 conference in Los Angeles.
Prowess is extremely committed to moving the supplier diversity agenda forward, and by using the WBENC certification standards and procedures, they have begun to develop a formal process of certifying WBEs in the UK.
