Amgen Hosts Supplier Development Workshop Focusing on Best Practices for Promoting Yourself "Pitching" to a Corporation

More than 75 business owners from Astra Women's Business Alliance and NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) attended a role play event on Thursday, July 29 at Amgen's campus in South San Francisco, CA.  The half-day event is designed to educate business owners on best practices for promoting yourself "pitching" to a corporation. The event, hosted by Amgen's Supplier Diversity Liaison Officer Wendy Matheu, is part of the Company's commitment to supplier diversity.   Later in the day, companies will be invited to a unique program allowing them to network with supplier diversity professionals from Amgen and other corporations. Representatives from Kelly Services, Inc. and COMSYS will also attend the event to identify potential suppliers to include in Amgen's Managed Service Provider (MSP) Program for staff augmentation.

"This event will be fun, illustrative and will provide attendees with greater visibility to WBENC (Women's Business Enterprise National Council) Corporate members and Amgen's MSPs who value the importance of supplier diversity," Matheu added.

Farryn Melton, Amgen's Vice President of Global Strategic Sourcing and CPO, supports the event, reflecting Amgen's executive commitment to supplier diversity. Melton is also a newly elected Board of Directors member of WBEN's Board of Directors.  "One of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to supplier diversity is by providing practical information that can help suppliers better understand their customers' needs," Melton noted.

The role play will be recorded and made available on the WBENC website.

A strong brand is an invaluable quality in the marketplace and is one of Chevron's most vital assets. It's one of the key elements that separates the company from its competitors and is one of the first things a customer recognizes; therefore it was extremely important Chevron select the right promotional and branded merchandise supplier.

The goal of Chevron's thorough strategic sourcing process was to partner with a supplier that is best aligned with the future goals and needs of the Chevron enterprise due to the demands of a new decade. One candidate rose to the top of the list, Zorch International. Zorch was selected based upon their focus on maintaining Chevron's brand standards as well as their ability to provide cutting-edge on-line ordering capabilities to seamlessly deliver innovative and quality products at competitive prices. As an added bonus, their Woman-Owned Business certification was aligned with our Supplier Diversity program mission to fuel mutual growth.

Chevron is proud to select Zorch International as our brand stewardship partner for quality, competitively priced promotional and branded merchandise.
